At 187, students can take out sewing machines, cameo cutters, 3D pens, and hand drills. Keep in mind each tool has a different length of time they can be borrowed ranging from 1-3 days.
Equipment may only be used by students currently enrolled in EFS.
You must have your valid RISD ID card to check out equipment.
Equipment checkouts are for academic purposes only.
You remain responsible for a piece of equipment until it is returned in the computer system.
If you leave a piece of equipment unattended and it is stolen, you will be held liable.
Never lend your equipment to anyone else. You will be held liable for any damage or problems that are incurred.
All equipment is issued on a first come first served basis.
If checkout is for a group project, one person is solely responsible for all of the rules, terms, conditions, fines and fees.
Thoroughly review & understand the information provided in the owner’s manual.
Only use the equipment for its intended purpose as described in the operator’s manual.
Inspect all machine settings and adjustments and modify as necessary for the task.
Always turn off and unplug the equipment from it’s power source after use.
Return equipment clean and in the same condition as it was received.
You are responsible for the equipment you have checked out. If a piece of equipment is stolen, lost, or returned damaged, broken, or with missing parts, you will be held liable and will be billed accordingly.
When checking out equipment, verify that:
It is in working order.
There is no visible damage.
No parts or accessories are missing.
Report any damage or missing parts to a monitor or technician before checking out equipment.
Return equipment on time to avoid having a hold applied to your account and so other patrons are not kept waiting.
Equipment is considered returned when entered into the computer reservation system.
Leaving equipment in or near the 187 Benefit Street Studio is not considered a “return.”
All equipment renewals must be made in person at the 187 Benefit Street Studio BEFORE the original return time.
Do not assume that equipment will be renewed during times when they are in high demand.
Studio Renewals will not be given over the phone or by email.
If equipment is returned late, you will receive a hold and will not be able to renew or check out equipment.
You will pay for all necessary repairs, up to the replacement value of the equipment, for equipment that is damaged while in your care.
Late, lost, stolen, or damaged equipment will result in suspension from the following privileges until replacement costs are paid:
Ability to check out EFS equipment.
Access to the EFS digital fabrication reservation system.
