Users of the 187 Benefit Street Studio (187 Studio) agree to respect and follow the following Code of Conduct policies in addition to the policies described in the RISD Code of Student Conduct.
These policies are designed to foster a welcoming environment that honors the safety, health, courtesy, mutual respect, and well-being of all individuals while in the 187 Studio.
If you are being harassed or notice that someone else is being harassed contact a technician or monitor immediately.
The 187 Studio is a shared space; please be respectful of other users, equipment, and the space itself.
Be considerate of other users and their possessions.
Share equipment fairly.
Follow safety guidelines at all times.
Be aware of the activity going on around you.
Only operate equipment for its intended use.
Return all tools to their proper places.
Clean up after yourself.
Leave the space and equipment in the condition it was found.
Visitors to the 187 Studio must cooperate with the requests of the 187 Studio technicians and monitors. Both 187 Studio technicians and monitors have the authority to enforce the studio’s rules and policies.
We do not tolerate discrimination or harassment in any form, whether directed at an employee, student, faculty, or other members of the RISD community, and expect that all individuals will treat each other, and the studio, with respect and civility at all times.
Anyone disregarding the following guidelines will be removed from the studio.
Individuals may be asked to leave if their actions fail to respect these guidelines.
Inappropriate behavior includes, but is not limited to, the following:
Interfering with other people’s use of the studio,
Actions that could result in injury to oneself or others,
Disrupting the work of others.
Violating the rights of others.
Engaging in harmful behavior toward others (including but not limited to physical, verbal, written, and electronic means)
Discriminatory or bigoted conduct, including speech directed at a particular person based on race, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, religion, age, national origin, or disability.
Failing to comply with the instructions or warnings of RISD officials or obstructing them in the course of performing their duties.
Deliberate misuse of machines or equipment.
Damage to, destruction, theft, or other misuse of RISD property or the property of others.
Possession/use of alcohol in the studios; intoxication in the studios.
Behavior that violates local, state, or federal laws.
Abuse of the code of conduct will result in disciplinary action.
The consequences of the offense will be at the discretion of the EFS staff based on the level of the offender’s violation.
Tier 1: The offender will receive a verbal warning and a review of the 187 Studio Code of Conduct.
Tier 2: The offender will be banned from the 187 Studio for one week. Documentation will be kept for the offense.
Tier 3: The offender will be banned from the 187 Studio for the remainder of the semester. Documentation will be kept for the offense.
Tier 4: The offender will be banned from the 187 Studio for the remainder of the academic year and lose equipment checkout privileges.Documentation of the violation will be forwarded to the Director of Student Conduct and Community Standards for review. Documentation will be kept for the offense.
